Materials We Use
Whilst many think that the finish of roofs relies just on the workmanship this really is not the case. The materials used will not only allow the works to be completed to a high standard but also they can help reduce the costs for the works and ensure they last for the correct duration of time.
John Brash Red Roofing Batten is our number 1 choice for battens when building a pitched roof. Its pressure treated to resist rot and insect attack and prolong its life spam. Its sourced from Sweden and is used to support clay, fibre cement, natural slate or metal roofing tiles and/or bitumen or wooden shingle. Some of the key factors are they have adequate strength and stiffness to support the dead, imposed and wind loads and they will not be adversely affected by moisture under normal conditions found in a roof space. They have been treated with a preservative, specified to achieve a 60-year design life and are fully tested and constructed in accordance to BS 5534 : 2003 + A1 : 2010.
IKO Pitched Roof Underlay is a lightweight high performance underlay for pitched tiled & slated roofs. Installed in the same manner as conventional tile & slate underlays, IKO roof underlay prevents the ingress of wind driven dust, rain & snow into the roof void. Its clean & easy to handle, durable with a sigh tensile & tear strength, UV resistant and available in 1m widths and 15m & 45m length rolls. Its reinforced for damage resistance and can also be used on cold ventilated roofs. It complies with British Standards and is ventilated in accordance with BS 5534: 2003.
Marley Fibre Cement Slate Tiles are a premium fibre cement slate featuring a smooth surface and square cut edge in the Blue/Black/Grey colour. A smooth surface and square cut edges give a low profile slate at an economical price, particularly suitable to complex roof geometries down to 15°. With its low wastage and ease of installation, it’s easy to see why it is our number 1 choice for all types of new build and refurbishment roofs. The Riven surface closely resembles the finish of natural slate. A randomized texture, on the surface of each tile, ensures an attractive variegated appearance with depth and tone, providing a finish which resembles natural slate and is 40% thinner than standard interlocking tiles. It can be used for both roof & facade & is a 100% recyclable building material. Marley fibre cement slate meets the NHBC guidelines and the BS 5534 and BS 8612 requirements.
